Week commencing 1st August 2011 - Birr Notes


Junior Championship; We had a good win last Thursday night in St Brendan's Park against Ballinamere so well done to all.

Senior Hurling Championship; We had a big win over Shamrocks on Sunday morning last in Kilcormac, so well done and keep up the good work.

Intermediate Football; We went down to Bracknagh on Monday last in the championship by four points. Hard luck to all involved.




Week commencing 25th July 2011 - Birr Notes


Well done to our minor hurlers who had an impressive win over Coolderry in the championship on Wednesday night last.

Hard luck to our intermediate footballers who were beaten last Sunday in the championship.



Our under 12s take pride of place this week retaining the Tom Ryan Cup when they played Kilnadeema/Leitrim last Saturday. It was a great day and thanks to the social committee who hosted refreshments for both teams and the large crowd. Well done to cap tain Jack Pardy and his team and thanks to Tom's family for pre sentations. Thanks to Mick Lyons, Field Committee, for his help as always.

Hard luck to our Junior hurlers who were beaten in the championship by Kinnitty on Sunday morning last.



Congratulations to U-14 trainer and senior hurler Barry Whelahan and Finula Regan, who were married last Thursday. Barry's under 14 team provided a surprise Guard of Honour for both of them at their arrival at the County Arms Hotel. We wish them a long and happy life together.

We played K/K on Tuesday night last in the league and K/K came out on top in this one. We played Ballinamere on Friday night last in the league and were narrowly defeated.



Week commencing 16th May 2011 - Birr Notes



Our U-14 hurlers kicked off their championship last Friday evening with a win over St Rynagh's, whining 0-11 to 0-5.
This week the U-12 footballers play Edenderry on Wednesday May 18th at 7.30p.m.



Week commencing 9th May 2011 - Birr Notes


Senior Championship; Our seniors had an emphatic win on Friday last in Banagher against Drumcullen on a scoreline of 2-23 to 1-8. Well done to all involved.

Intermediate Championship; Our intermediates went down badly in this one on a scoreline of Birr 1-3 K/K 3-10.


Our U-16 hurlers played Coolderry/Lusmagh on Monday evening and after a great exciting encounter, lost narrowly by one point. Final score; Coolderry/Lusmagh 2-15 Birr 3-11.

Week commencing 18th April 2011 - Birr Notes


We played Tullamore in the league on Saturday last in St Brendan's Park and were narrowly defeated by two points.

The club would like to extend thanks to anyone who helped out in the preparation of St Brendan's Park and in the stewardship of the day of the under 21 semi-final on Saturday last.



Hard luck to the Community Games team who lost out to Edenderry after a great spirited display. The team played well as a unit and were unfortunate not to win. Full time score Edenderry 2-2 Birr 1-2.

Out U-16s had a good win over Ballycumber/Tubber on Monday evening last by 5-7 to 2-12. It was a great display by the team.


Week commencing 11th April 2011 - Birr Notes

Well done to our under 14 hurling team and management on winning the Feile, we now go onto represent Offaly in Galway in June. Again congratulations to all involved.


Pride of place this week goes to our U-14 Hurlers who this week won the Feile final after a fantastic weekend of hurling. In the final Birr defeated Coolderry by 1-7 to 1-5. They now go on to represent Offaly in Galway in June. Again congratulations to all involved.

Our Footballers played Clonbollogue in the league on Saturday last hi St.Brendan's Park and were defeated on a score line of 3-15 to 3-7.

We had a good win in the Senior Hurling League played on Sunday last in Birr when we defeated Belmont. Our parish U21 team (St.Brendan's) were beaten by Shinrone on Sunday last in the Championship in a closely contested contest. The scoreline was St.Brendan's 2-11 Shinrone 2-13.
