New East Terrace with safety barriers. These pictures were taken on Saturday 2nd April 2011. You'd never guess to look at it , but the pitch was spiked and sanded on Monday 28th March last.

Senior Hurling Championship; We had a big win over Shamrocks on Sunday morning last in Kilcormac, so well done and keep up the good work.

Intermediate Football; We went down to Bracknagh on Monday last in the championship by four points. Hard luck to all involved.

This Wednesday night August 3rd we play St Rynagh's in the Minor Hurling Championship in St Brendan's Park at 7.30p.m. Best of luck to the team and management.

ST BRENDAN S PARK
It has been a very busy week with fixtures so the club would like to thank anyone who helped out in the field in any way. The highlight of the weekend fixtures was the Minor 'A' Ladies Football All-Ireland Final, in which Cork beat Dublin. This match was televised live on TG4 so again thanks and a special thanks to Birr Camogie Club who provided refreshments for all the officials on the day.

FUNDRAISING
Birr GAA Summer 10K Race Fun Run is one August 13th at 12 noon in aid of Irish Autism Action and Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. It starts and finishes at O'Connor Park. So far the response has been huge so if you want to get involved please contact club chairman Finbar Spain on (086) 8560710.

SYMPATHY

LUCOZADE CLUB CRUSADE
Lucozade Sport have given the club the chance to be in a draw for €10,000. To be in with a chance of winning this €10,000 the club have to collect as many Lucozade Sport bottle caps as they can. CROSSBAR CHALLENGE
Calling all members, players, mentors, parents and supporters of Birr GAA Club. Could you be King or Queen of the Minor Club Crossbar Lucozade Challenge? The club at minor level are hosting this competition on Wednesday August 17th at 6p.m. in St Brendan's Park. Do you dare enter and test your skill? To do so all you need is 10 Lucozade Sport caps. They hope you call get involved. Come along on the evening and get involved in their Lucozade Club Crusade. There will be skills competitions for U-10s and U-8s. VINTAGE WEEK PARADE
All underage teams are requested to be at the Marian Hall this coming Sunday at 2.15p.m. to take part in the Vintage Parade. Please wear your Birr jersey and bring any flags etc you may have. ST BRENDAN S PARK
Just an update on progress on the development of the pitch. By the end of this week we hope to have 22 of the proposed 30 steps completed on the terracing on the town end and it looks good to have it completed by the end of August. Thanks to all who have helped so far to do this work and a special thanks has to be given to St Brendan's Environmental Group.

This week we also have championship fixtures in the pitch on Thursday night, Friday night and Sunday, so the club will be in contact with members for their help over the weekend.

U-12 HURLING TOM RYAN MEMORIAL CUP
Our under 12s take pride of place this week retaining the Tom
Ryan Cup when they played Kilnadeema/Leitrim last Saturday. It
was a great day and thanks to the social committee who hosted
refreshments for both teams and the large crowd. Well done to cap­
tain Jack Pardy and his team and thanks to Tom's family for pre­
sentations. Thanks to Mick Lyons, Field Committee, for his help as

TOM RYAN MEMORIAL CUP
This Saturday July 23rd at 12 noon at St Brendan's Park our U-12s take on Kilnadeema/Leitrim in the annual Tom Ryan Hurling Challenge.

Always a great encounter every year, the club look forward to hosting Kilnadeema/Leitrim who looked after our Feile team so well. So make a note in your diary for this coming Saturday and come along and enjoy the match.

Congratulations to U-14 trainer and senior hurler Barry Whelahan and Finula Regan, who were married last Thursday. Barry's under 14 team provided a surprise Guard of Honour for both of them at their arrival at the County Arms Hotel. We wish them a long and happy life together.

Thanks to all who supported the table quiz hi The Fighting Cocks last Thursday night. A great night was had by all who attended. Hard luck to the Community Games team who lost out to Edenderry after a great spirited display. The team played well as a unit and were unfortunate not to win. Full time score Edenderry 2-2 Birr 1-2.

U-10 TRAINING
U-10 football training in the Brothers Field resumes Tuesday evenings at 6.30p.m.

U-16 FOOTBALL
Out U-16s had a good win over Ballycumber/Tubber on Monday evening last by 5-7 to 2-12. It was a great display by the team.

U-14 FOOTBALL TRAINING
Training for U-14 football this Wednesday evening at 6.30p.m. in the Brothers Field. It is important that anyone inteiestea oe in the field for training as there is a match this Friday evening.

HURLING

Pride of place this week goes to our U-14 Hurlers who this week won the Feile final after a fantastic weekend of hurling. In the final Birr defeated Coolderry by 1-7 to 1-5.

Well done also to Stefan Feehan, Craig Taylor and Eoghan Cahill who were part of the Offaly U14 team who took part in the Tony Forristal tournament last Saturday, while Emmet Nolan, Scott Finnane and Conor Nolan were part of the Offaly U15 squad who reached the semi final in Leinster.

On a recent 'Off the ball' sports show on newstalk radio our club website received great praise for its content and detail. This week it will contain photos of the work being undertaken in St. Brendan's Park. Credit for all the work on the website goes to Club Treasurer John Hoare.

The Birr Library are running an exhibition based on our club All-Ireland final appearances. In conjunction with this St. Brendan's Boy School 6th class are doing a project on these games. The boys and the library will then produce a booklet based on their project. This will be launched on Wednesday 24th of March at 6p.m. in the library. All are welcome. ST. BRENDAN'S PARK
Work continues on the upgrading of St. Brendan's Park. The wall surrounding the pitch has been removed and will be replaced by a rail similar to that on the stand side. Work has begun on the hills on the roadside in preparation for terracing and it is hoped that contractors will begin installing the new drainage system for the pitch very shortly. It is hoped to re-open the pitch in July.

Membership is now due. This must be paid before March 31st. It is essential that all players pay in the coming week to be registered.

Well done to Offaly Senior Hurlers on their victory over Dublin last Sunday and best of luck to them v Galway next Saturday especially to our own Brian, Michael, Paul, Dylan and Rory. Hard luck to Sean Ryan and Stephen Lonergan who were part of the Offaly Football team who narrowly lost to Sligo last weekend.

8th July 2009 - Club Notes

BIRR
Hard luck to Brian Mullins, Michael Verney, Paul Cleary, Rory Hanniffy and Dylan Hayden and the Offaly senior hurlers who lost to Cork last Saturday. Commiserations also to Sean Ryan and Stephen Lonergan who were part of the Offaly Senior Football team who lost by a point to Wexford also on Saturday.

Fixture IFC; July llth, Birr v Clonbullogue in Killeigh at 7.30p.m.

Best  wishes  for  a   speedy receovery to Mark Mulrooney, who is recovering from injury.

EGM - The club is holding an EGM in Dooly's Hotel this Thursday night at 8p.m. All members are asked to attend this very important meeting.

Membership - Membership can be paid to Registrar Pauline Hayden or any committee member.

St Brendan's Park - Anyone wishing to book a training session or game should contact Gerry Sammon or Mick Lyons.

Best Wishes - Best wishes to the Birr parish Community Games hurlers who play in the Leinster semi-final (and hopefully final) this Saturday in Carlow. This is their third year in a row to reach this stage and hopefully they will go one further than the past two years where they were beaten in the final.
